Organisation
The institute is conducted by ad-interim directors Prof. Jacques Wallage and Prof. Sabine Otten and a program manager Dr. Aafje Dotinga. Jacques Wallage focuses mainly on the external relations of ISW and Sabine Otten primarily on the scientific management of ISW, It is supported by its own secretariat. As of September 1st 2012, Sharon Smit will be the new director of the institute.
Research that is done at the institute is of a multidisciplinary nature. The staff members responsible for leading and carrying out the research represent various faculties within the University of Groningen as well as other institutions. The actual research is performed at the specific faculties where its respective project leaders (professors and assistant-professors) are located.
The institute is overseen by a board comprised of six Professors from various faculties at the University of Groningen. The board determines the focus and direction of research, as well as the appropriation of resources. It is also responsible for safe-guarding the quality of research carried out by the institute. As of 2011, the organization is being advised by the Scientific Council. The Council provides the institute with advice regarding significant changes to its organization and mission. Per request, the Scientific Council also advises the institute about its strategic research program.
Prof. Dr. Marilynn Brewer received an honorary doctorate on behalf of this institute on June 5th, 2009. Additionally, as of September 2009, Prof. Drs. Jacques Wallage is recognized by this institute as Professor by special appointment, holding the chair of ‘Integration and Public Administration’. The institute also works in collaboration with various social partners.
