Research program
In the research program of the ISW, we focus primarily on the question of what mechanisms can provide innovative force in a society where the norms of cultural groups meaningfully differ. An overreliance on the strength of diversity is not enough. When there is diversity, also necessary tensions can appear, that can hinder cohesion and feelings of security among citizens. Where opinions differ are more likely conflicts and tensions paired with communicationproblems.
In the analysis of mechanisms that ensure the innovative power of diversity, it is therefore essential to search for stabilizing mechanisms that can operate in the midst of differences. Assumption is that stability and innovative force in society require mechanisms, for example in law and security. In our research we focus on identifying mechanisms that can contribute to connectivity and dynamics in a diverse society.
From different scientific disciplines we focus on:
- Institutions and Organisations
- Society
- Media
- Education
- Law
- Religion and religious communities
- Language and identity
- Spatial environment
- Safety and safety policy
